Porsche designers are in the office and they're not coming out until they can present the Roxster. This will be the fifth model in the Porsche SUV line and will be a smaller version of the Cayenne to an extent. Current Porsche models aside from the Cayenne include the Boxter, 911 and Panamere.

New and used Porsche dealers are excited by the prospect that Porsche will open up into a new market, where there company says only Mercedes and BMW are currently designing. The German automakers have dominated in the crossover market and with smaller SUV design, but we don't always see all the fruits of their efforts here in the United States. Many modes are strictly marketed in Europe.

Porsche is investing a large chunk in this new line, but they did the same with the Cayenne and production of that model has almost doubled.  I think this automaker has been around long enough to know how to hedge their bets, and to be honest, I'll stop and look at any vehicle that has a Porsche logo, so it will get attention.

Think about it next time you go by your used Porsche dealer. Don't you slow down? Aren't you likely to assume anything that says "Porsche" is cool? Admit it. (That wasn't so painful, was it?)

This new model will be based on the Audi Q5 and the upcoming Q3. Although the name "Roxster" has not been confirmed, it has been rumored for quite some time and I think it has a certain attitude, so I'm going with it. Westport used Porsche customers should feel free to call it Roxster as well in lieu of anything better coming from the Porsche designers or headquarters.

Anyway the "Roxster", as we will call it henceforth, is designed as a luxury, sporty car. It will be even sportier than its parent model the Cayenne (whose name also has nice attitude) and will have some heavier lines. Also added will be LED headlamps and taillights.

Insiders believe the Roxster will give buyers a choice of a V6 or a V8 with output from 280 to 500 horsepower in a rumored Turbo version. That's the only thing I don't like about the whole Roxster idea – too many rumors. Even though we don't know when this model might hit dealerships, it would be great if Porsche would step up and give us some definite details so we can start salivating now.

Seriously, it's a Porsche – why wouldn't it make the Hot Cars list for 2011? And frankly, when you look at some of the other contenders, it's surprising they made it. I realize the compilers of the list have tried to give sports car options in all price ranges, but Porsche just doesn't seem to belong on the same list as a Subaru, nevertheless . . .

Westport CT Panamera buyers will want to check out this new Boxter Spyder.  With a price of $61,200, it's not out of line for a true sports car – and that's certainly what the Boxter Spyder is. This car delivers in so many ways that buyers will be awed.

Porsche changed up this soft-top roadster Spyder with some unique body panels and a canvas roof that manual rather than power-operated. A bit of a kick-back to the roadsters of old, perhaps. Its 3.4-liter, six-cylinder engine does have a bit more pull than the Boxster S, with 320 horsepower.

A plethora of other features will entice customers to the Weston new Porsche dealership to check out the new Boxter Spyder. The rear-wheel drive and mid-engine layout allow for a real sports-car feel to the ride and the six-speed manual transmission adds some adventure. (You can also opt for the seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission if you want a bit more challenge.)

Porsche hasn't skimped on the safety features, though. Side curtain airbags can be found in the windowsills and the well-known Porsche quality can be found throughout. Panamera owners won't be disappointed in the new Spyder.

Think back to the first time you rode in or drove a Porsche, or even just saw one drive down the street. When I was in high school we had a teacher who drove an old Porsche, but it was still the coolest car I had ever seen and probably about the only European car I saw up close for many years.  The trunk being in the front was what really impressed me. (Let me clarify that this was in the early 80s in the Midwest lest you think I grew up in a cave or a commune.)

So when you think about the reputation of the Porsche andthe fact that we all probably dreamed of driving one at one time or another, it makes this new model even more exciting. It might actually be something we can afford as adults and it would certainly still impress our friends. What more could we ask from a car?
